Description
Algebra 1 Course Overview
This class is approved by the NCAA.
This class is part of the MyFunScience online homeschool classes, which provide live instruction for middle school and high school students.
This live online Algebra 1 class helps homeschool students build the foundational algebra skills needed for higher-level math courses such as Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus.
Algebra 1 is typically the first official high school-level math class. This course earns high school credit and should be included on a student’s high school transcript. It builds on material covered in Pre-Algebra and introduces important topics such as linear and quadratic equations, graphing fundamentals, exponents, solving equations, and critical thinking strategies for solving a wide variety of word problems.
For many students, math can feel challenging or even overwhelming. One of the most valuable aspects of studying mathematics is that it helps students become problem solvers, independent thinkers, and confident learners. The phrase “I’m just not good at math” does not stop students in Algebra 1 from learning, growing, and preparing for more advanced math classes in high school.
Students will have recorded videos for each lesson in the textbook as well as interactive discussions during live class sessions. Students take notes, work problems together, and occasionally solve problems on the board to deepen their understanding. Students will also learn how to use a graphing calculator to better understand concepts and solve problems—no prior calculator knowledge required. Mrs. Lopez is also available to meet with students outside of class to answer questions or help with challenging problems.
