Description
French 2 Course Overview
This class is approved by the NCAA.
This class is part of the MyFunScience live online homeschool classes, which provide structured instruction for middle school and high school students. Families can explore all of our foreign language courses for homeschool students.
This live online French 2 class builds on the strong foundation established in French 1. Students expand vocabulary, strengthen conversational ability, and deepen grammatical understanding while continuing to grow in confidence using the language.
After more than 20 years of teaching foreign languages, this course blends proven classroom experience with the Comprehensible Input (TPRS) approach to language learning. Instead of focusing primarily on memorizing grammar rules and vocabulary lists, students learn through engaging stories, conversation, and reading they can easily understand. This approach helps students naturally build comprehension, confidence, and the ability to communicate in the language.
This method equips every learner — from gifted students to those with dyslexia — for success.
Students continue speaking, understanding, and reading French from the first week. Grammar remains meaning-based, but in French 2 students work with present, past, future, conditional, imperative, and introductory subjunctive structures while continuing to develop fluency.

Course Structure & Expectations
Students should plan on 30–40 minutes of work each day, four days per week, in addition to the live class session. Consistent practice is essential for language acquisition.
Students will continue working through Excelerate French, Book 1, progressing intentionally while incorporating additional material beyond the textbook.
Students will read one to three novels entirely in French, increasing in complexity from the previous year. Scripture memory, praise songs, hymns, contemporary music, cultural exploration, food, and games remain an important part of the class experience.
Parents: Please contact the instructor if your student has dyslexia or other learning differences. This teaching approach is often very successful for those students.
Benefits of Learning French
Learning a foreign language strengthens academic skills, expands cultural understanding, and improves communication. Ultimately, language exists for building relationships and communicating meaningful ideas.
Through language study, students gain the ability to connect with people around the world and share the love and truth of the Gospel.
