Description
This class has been renamed from “2-4-6-8: You Can Learn To Do Math Great” in order to be more descriptive and to shorten the title.
Who Is This Class Designed For?
Mastering Math Basics is a single semester class offered during the spring semester. The class is designed to create a strong foundation for basic math skills. This class can be taken in 5th grade to prepare for Middle School Math or maybe in middle school if your student is still struggling with some basics.
This class can be taken in conjunction with other math classes and focuses on computations with decimals, fractions, mixed numbers and percentages.
A Foundation of Math Basics
You need to learn and practice to build a strong foundation of math basics. Various strategies such as virtual manipulatives, online games, classroom activities, video clips, music and the standard algorithms will be used in this course.
All of these training methods will be implemented to teach computations with decimals, fractions, mixed numbers and percents. These skills are the building blocks needed to excel in higher level math classes. This class can be taken in conjunction with a traditional math class.
Live Class Participation
Students are encouraged to actively participate in the live class. It is so much fun to collaborate with each other, write on the board, and view video clips. You can choose to talk during the class OR text me privately with answers to questions. No pressure. You will be comfortable in the online classroom. We work together to learn and practice each math concept. We all make mistakes and that is how we learn! However, If you miss a live class please watch the recordings promptly. 🙂

Estimated Workload
- Students will be given 4 homework assignments that will be completed online within Schoology. The homework assignments will consist of multiple choice questions or fill in the blank, videos to watch, online practice games, etc.
- The weekly homework should be completed over a 4 day period and finished the day before our next live class. It is suggested that the student do 1 assignment per day so they can practice math every day. (About 30 -60 minutes) It is not helpful to do all the assignments at one time! However, I realize things happen and sometimes you can’t follow this “rule.” Homework should not be stressful; it will be a review of the topics covered during our online class.

“As my daughter entered 8th grade, I was looking for a math class to review concepts from upper elementary and early middle school. During her elementary years, she was quite stubborn and the math curriculum we used probably wasn’t the best fit for her personality.” […read the full article »]
