Description
This class was formerly known as “2-4-6-8: You Can Learn to Do Math Great”.
Who Is This Class Designed For?
Mastering Math Basics is a one-semester class offered during the spring semester. It is designed to help students build a strong foundation in essential math skills.
This class may be taken in 5th grade to prepare for Middle School Math, or by middle school students who need extra practice with foundational math concepts.
This class can be taken in conjunction with other math classes and focuses on computations with decimals, fractions, mixed numbers, and percentages.
A Foundation of Math Basics
Strong math skills come from learning and practicing the basics. In this course, students will use a variety of learning strategies including virtual manipulatives, online games, classroom activities, video clips, music, and traditional algorithms.
These methods will help students master computations with decimals, fractions, mixed numbers, and percents. These skills form the building blocks needed to succeed in higher-level math courses. This class may also be taken alongside a traditional math class for additional support and reinforcement.
Live Class Participation
Students are encouraged to actively participate during the live class sessions. Collaboration makes learning more engaging and enjoyable. Students may speak during class discussions or privately message the instructor with answers to questions—whichever feels most comfortable.
Students will work together, solve problems on the board, watch video clips, and practice each concept as a group. Making mistakes is part of the learning process! If a student misses a live class, they should watch the recording as soon as possible.

“As my daughter entered 8th grade, I was looking for a math class to review concepts from upper elementary and early middle school. During her elementary years, she was quite stubborn and the math curriculum we used probably wasn’t the best fit for her personality.” […read the full article »]
