Description
Spanish 1 Course Overview
This class is approved by the NCAA.
This class is part of the MyFunScience live online homeschool classes, which provide structured instruction for middle school and high school students. Families can explore all of our homeschool foreign language courses.
While your student will speak and converse a lot in this live online Spanish 1 class, this is more than a conversational Spanish course. Grammar is included through meaning and repetition and small doses of concentrated material as the student acquires language because he or she understands what is being said.
Students will be speaking, understanding, and reading Spanish from the very first week – growing in ability quickly. Grammar is taught every class through meaning and application.
Learning Spanish smarter, not harder! After more than 20+ years of teaching Spanish in a traditional format, I am now teaching by blending that with a different approach called the “Reading & Storytelling” approach (TPRS) for learning Spanish and other foreign languages. Research & scholarly studies reveal that students learn to speak and use Spanish faster and more confidently with this approach. Success – and fun!
This method equips every learner — from gifted students to those with dyslexia — for success.

Course Structure & Expectations
Students should plan on approximately 30–40 minutes of work per day, four days per week, in addition to the live class session.
Students work through the course text and typically read one or two novels entirely in Spanish during the year. Because the class includes significant “out-of-text” material, the text is covered intentionally and thoroughly.
Scripture memory, praise songs, hymns, contemporary music, cultural studies, food, and games are integrated throughout the course.
Parents: Please contact the instructor if your student has dyslexia or other learning differences.

What Families Are Saying
My daughter had a fantastic year of Spanish! She learned a lot of Spanish and enjoyed doing it as well.
Mrs. Mac is a dynamic teacher. Her approach is creative, fun, and very effective.
She gladly wakes up early every week to join the 7am class. Needless to say, she will be taking Spanish II next year.
