Tech Careers & Innovation Tools Course Overview

This class is part of the MyFunScience live online homeschool classes, which provide structured academic instruction for middle school and high school students. Families can explore all of our homeschool technology courses.

This live online technology class teaches homeschool high school students how to use modern tools to solve problems, build real-world projects, and develop practical technology skills.

Students will work with today’s most relevant digital tools to design solutions, streamline tasks, and create meaningful projects they can showcase.

This course focuses on using technology tools to build solutions and solve real-world problems.

It is different from our Modern Media classes (which focus on content creation) and Computer Science class (which focus on coding).

Fall Semester — Careers in Technology

  • Explore a variety of technology career pathways
  • UX/UI design, cybersecurity, IT support, animation, data science, and digital marketing
  • Day-in-the-life simulations and career research
  • Guest interviews and career spotlights
  • Resume writing and professional communication skills
  • Personalized career pathway planning

Students gain a clear understanding of how different technology careers function while developing practical skills they can begin using right away.

Spring Semester — Innovation Tools & Emerging Technology

  • Use modern digital tools to solve problems and complete real-world tasks
  • Build simple apps using no-code platforms
  • Create automated systems to streamline everyday workflows
  • Design animations and interactive digital projects
  • Explore emerging technologies through guided, hands-on demonstrations
  • Evaluate how new technologies impact everyday life
  • Discuss digital ethics and responsible technology use

Final Innovation Project: Students will design and build their own technology solution using modern tools.

Projects may include an automated system, a simple app, a digital tool, or a custom workflow designed to solve a real-world problem.

This project gives students a tangible, portfolio-ready result they can showcase.

Anna Pollard began her professional career in the graphic and web design industry as a Creative Director in the field of Informational Technology. She has a AAS in Commercial Art and Advertising Design, a BA in Computer Science, and a Masters degree in Business and Marketing.

After 15 years of professional IT work, Anna Pollard made a career change to share her technology knowledge with students and began a career in teaching for many years.

Anna is married, has a 27 year old son whom she also home schooled, and who is now a chef at a French restaurant.

Anna has adopted/rescued multiple cats and two horses. In her spare time, she helps with the horses at Love of Lacey Equine rescue in Bunn Level, NC. She is also a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and creates colored pencil art work for show at local art galleries.
