German 4 Course Description
This class is approved by the NCAA.
This German 4 course builds on the foundation of German 3. Students will deepen their understanding of German grammar and further develop their reading, speaking, and writing skills by exploring historical, artistic, literary, and political topics.
The course will focus on reading and analyzing literary texts. This exposure to language will further written and oral comprehension and expression. Students will be able to make arguments, discuss works of art, understand history and cultural nuance, plan for trips, understand ads, and create a job application in German.

- Textbook: Neue Blickwinkel, 2nd edition (used copies are fine; digital access not needed); Aspekte/Neu Mittelstufe Deutsch Grammatik B1 Plus Bis C1
German 4 Course Outline
- For each unit, the necessary grammatical structures and vocabulary will be included so that students can engage in the topic.
- Leute heute (talking about people; present a biography of a German speaker)
- Schule, Bildung, Beruf (educational system, being a youth in Germany, what to do after graduation)
- Familienmodelle, Gemeinschaft, Tradition (family models, community, family traditions)
- Musik, Politik, Emotionen (eating habits in Germany, culinary tour of regional dishes)
- Ein Blick in die Vergangenheit (German history following WWII; two German states; reunification)
- Die deutsche Identität (German stereotypes, questions of German identity; Germany’s role in Europe)
