Description
English III: Journeys Course Overview
This class is approved by the NCAA.
This class is part of the MyFunScience online homeschool classes, which offer live instruction for middle school and high school students. Families can also explore our full collection of English and literature courses for homeschool students.
English III: Journeys builds upon the strong language arts foundation established in English I: Discovery and English II: Foundations while preparing students for the advanced writing and literary analysis expected in English IV: Mastery. In this homeschool English course, students continue developing essential grammar, writing, vocabulary, poetry, and literary analysis skills while strengthening the structured language arts habits introduced in earlier courses.
Students build a solid foundation in English grammar concepts and learn to write clear, well-constructed sentences, paragraphs, and multi-paragraph essays. Through guided instruction and practice, students refine sentence structure, analyze grammar more deeply, expand academic vocabulary, and develop stronger essay writing and composition skills.
The course places a strong emphasis on literature study and literary analysis, helping students thoughtfully engage with meaningful texts while exploring major literary elements and themes. Students examine elements such as plot, poetry, rhyme, dialogue, sound devices, figurative language, and literary themes, while also practicing poetry interpretation and structured literature discussion. These skills help students grow into confident readers, analytical thinkers, and capable writers.
English III continues our structured homeschool language arts pathway by helping students move from foundational writing toward more sophisticated grammar analysis, formal essay writing, and deeper literary interpretation.
Students are ready for this course if they can do the following:

- Memorize 10 new vocabulary words per week
- Write a well-structured paragraph (5–7 sentences) with little to no help

What Families Are Saying
“I never really enjoyed English very much, but being in your class this year made it enjoyable… There are no words to express how grateful I am to have had a teacher as dedicated as you.”
If I heard English I would run,
All I wanted was to be done,
Then I came to this class
And with every task
English suddenly became fun
Virtual learning has gotten such a bad reputation because of how public schools handled it. I am constantly defending my choice to use virtual learning — because it absolutely works here.

Madison just completed NWEA MAP testing and scored in the 92nd and 94th percentile in Reading and Language. Three years ago her scores were half that. Thank you for your quality English classes!
Sarah took English III and IV and later completed dual enrollment English at college level. Her professor encouraged her to pursue advanced writing and even an internship in the Writing Center.
She is more than prepared — and we are so thankful for what you poured into her.
