What Is the Alabama CHOOSE Act?

The Alabama CHOOSE Act (Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education Act) was signed into law on March 7, 2024, establishing Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) for K–12 students across Alabama.

Administered by the Alabama Department of Revenue, the program provides families with state-funded financial assistance to use at approved education service providers. Homeschool students may receive up to $2,000 per student (capped at $4,000 per family).

ESA funds may be used for MyFunScience online classes and other qualified educational expenses approved under the CHOOSE Act. MyFunScience is a direct pay vendor on ClassWallet.

To qualify, families must:

• Provide proof of Alabama residency
• Have a student in grades K–12
• Meet the income requirement of 300% or less of the federal poverty level for the previous tax year

The first 500 ESAs are reserved for students with special needs, followed by dependents of active-duty military members in priority schools and siblings of participating students. Students receiving scholarships under the Alabama Accountability Act for the same school year are not eligible to also receive a CHOOSE Act ESA.

Alabama CHOOSE Act Approved Classes

All live online classes in the following categories are approved:

• Science
• Math
• English & Literature
• History
• Social Science
• Foreign Language
• Bible
• Art

The following classes are not approved under the Alabama CHOOSE Act:

• Graphic Design
• Not Your Mom’s Home Ec.
• Shocking! An Intro to Electricity

How to Use Alabama CHOOSE Act Funds at MyFunScience

Invoice / Direct Pay

1. Visit our Contact Us page and let us know you are starting an order and would like to use your Alabama CHOOSE Act ESA funding.
2. Add your courses to your cart and proceed to checkout.
3. Select the Payment Plan option. In the Order Notes section, write:
   “I would like to use Alabama CHOOSE Act ESA funding.”
   Note: A temporary $99 fee will appear at checkout. You will not be charged. We will remove the fee. This step simply allows us to collect the information needed to register your student and generate an invoice.
4. We will email you an invoice to upload into your ClassWallet account (or the appropriate Alabama ESA payment portal).
5. Once the purchase is approved, we will enroll your student and send confirmation.
