Formal Logic Course Overview:
In this Formal (Deductive) Logic class we study “the art and science of reasoning well” and discover that accurate facts are not enough… valid reasoning is just as important!
We will start off by defining terms, forming and interpreting statements, and composing valid syllogisms. Next we’ll use those skills to analyze arguments and prove validity. Mid-year we will transition to more symbolic logic as we study truth tables, inference, validity, and even digital logic! Finally, we’ll apply our symbolic reasoning skills to the analysis of real-life arguments.
Nance’s logic texts do an excellent job of breaking down the fundamentals of rational thought, and this edition has been revised and reformatted for ease of use. Deductive Logic is foundational to subjects ranging from debate to geometry, computer programming, and engineering.
High School level reasoning skills.
